WHO AM I

My name is Frank Battrell and as a 56 year old white male Navy veteran who went to conservative christian schools for 12 years you might think that I am a God-fearing, right-wing ditto head. You would be wrong! While I respect anyone’s point of view on religion or politics, I give no quarter to those who would question my morality based on my belief in rational thought over faith. I am offended when my patriotism is questioned by those on the right because of my liberal beliefs. When chicken hawks like George Bush (AWOL from the Air Guard) and Dick Cheney (“I had better things to do with my time then to serve in the Army") were so full of hubris to call us UN-American (whatever that is) when we dared question their policies. When the religious right brought God into politics and blurred the separation of church and state, they opened themselves and their religion up to debate and then cried foul when they are ridiculed for their attempts to legislate morality as they see it and to restrict liberty for fellow Americans that don’t share those canons. I must admit I take glee in watching them hoist themselves on their own petards of hypocrisy. So in closing let there be no misunderstanding, I am a proud American veteran who served with pride. I am a union loving working man. I am a proud father and grandfather who has always tried to do the right thing and believe in the better nature of mankind. I am an atheist who wishes all of you who are not the best, but would ask that you keep those faith-based beliefs out of my government and I will defend to the death your right to worship whoever and however you want. I ask only the same respect. Please don’t try to “save me”. That would be “casting your pearls before swine” or in other words, don’t try to teach a pig to sing, it will only waste your time and it will piss off the pig!
